B
Becks,
Anne
An officer promoted to command of The Watch, killed in action in the Second
Colony War. Commentators have speculated that Anne Becks was in fact a
psudonym for Arquette Diva, the somewhat enigmatic doyenne of the League
Intelligence Service, at that time operating undercover on direct behalf
of The Father. Little else outside of the testimonial of Oltoy Mertens
is known.
Beth
Skarn
Industrial, company Generally referred to as BSI, this was the first major
astrotechnological company established after the First Colony War, this
conglomerate was formed from the remains of Imperial concerns in Alpha-Centauri
and privatised post-war League ventures. Best known as a supplier of components
to the League military, Beth-Skarn also manufactured a range of popular
shuttle and fighter craft aimed at mercenary and corporate markets. The
company was dissolved during the collapse of the New League.
Betrayal,
The Propagandised term for the League alliance with the Donachet during
the Second Colony War, culminating in a series of major military reversals
for the Hilachet, who had previously been clients of the League. The Hilachet's
somewhat ambiguous allegiances during the Gulf and Third Colony Wars have
been attributed to their bitterness over this affair.
Black
Ages, The
The period, loosely commencing with the Sixth millenium and lasting
some three-hundred and fifty years, of fragmentation, internicene warfare
and Sha'Har domination which followed the collapse of the New Empire.
Boreas,
system
Surveyed initially in 4452, intensive colonisation by League loyalists
was undertaken during much of the remainder of the First Colony War. Boreas
became the effective, if secret, capital system of the League in 4639,
the twentieth anniversary of the Battle of Bennay. All settlements in
the system were substantially damaged in the course of the Second Colony
War, and League administration relocated back to Gallonigher in 4673.
Bureau
19
The psychological warfare wing of the League Intelligence Service. The
bureau was heavily implicated in the decision to close the Sol warphole
in 4620, and involved in generating popular support for the long resistance
to the admission of the Squoroshelp to the League. The 'Alien Scare' of
the Second Colony War is generally considered to be one of the bureau's
greatest successes, but their star waned after the Gulf War and the bureau
was terminated as a specific treaty requirement during the foundation
of the New League after the Third Colony War.
