An
Aquarius class starliner, launched 4661, listed as missing during the
Second Colony War whilst under charter to Unisoft.
Cardinale,
system
Surveyed by the League in 4588, leading to first contact with the Dargothan
natives. The discovery of a highly-developed trade infrastructure in this
system prompted rapid contact with the Hilachet and Squoroshelp, and heavy
human colonisation over the subsequent century. The crowning glory of
this short-lived rapport with an alien culture was Unisoft, the multiplanetary
founded by Bill Kane in 4633, whose economic and political legacy lasted
some time after the decline of the company began with it's founder's murder
by the Sha'Har in 4670. Perpetual unrest with human colonists in the system
culminated in the diaspora of the Dargothans throughout the 4690s and
the resulting embargo by the New League shattered the power of xenophobic
human factions, led by The Cult, for whom Cardinale was a key success.

Colony
War, First
The conflict between the Sol-centred Old Empire and it's colonies is taken
to have begun in 4275 with the formation of the League of Free Worlds,
although open warfare did not commence until 4299. It is important to
note that this, humanity's first interstallar war, did not rage incessantly
for the entire 321 years until the collapse of the Empire. Throughout
this period, exploration and colonisation of the galaxy increased in tempo,
with both sides seeking ever greater economic power on the frontier. The
war is generally divided into four phases of intensive conflict, between
which more subdued patterns of so-called 'cool war' were dominant: i)
early phase, 4299-4317, primarily major reversals for the inexperienced
League forces, culminating in stalemate due to the ineffectiveness of
Imperial counter-insurgency measures; ii) middle phase, 4352-4397, 'hot
war' recommenced with protracted surface struggles for key colonial worlds,
resulting in significant League gains; iii) late phase, 4490-4525, growth
in League naval power was severely tested by the Colonial Navy, which
inflicted a series of sharp defeats, curtailed by the economic exhaustion
of both parties; iv) final phase, 4593-4620, the emergence of The Father
and the decisive Battle of Bennay, despite apparent reversals with the
recapture of Gallonigher by the Empire, led to the collapse of the Empire
and the sealing of the Sol warphole. See Empires and Leagues, Volumes
I (4275-4397) and II (4398-4587) for a detailed account.
Colony
War, Second
Also known as the 'Vengeance War', this conflict would essentially be
another phase in the First Colony War were it not for the part played
by Kron in rallying the forces of the Sol system for a major offensive
against the League. Commencing in 4669 with the reopening of the Sol warphole,
this brief but bloody episode has been largely overshadowed by the Red
Sun Incident of 4670. Nevertheless, the war serves as a fascinating case-study
for the continuation of an essentially economic conflict as a means of
pursuing an alternative agenda. The war ended in 4671 with the defeat
and death of Kron, but with no clear resoltion to the economic instabilities
which lay at it's roots.
Colony
War, Third
Sometimes considered a part of the Gulf War, this final Colony War saw
the dissolution of League of Free Worlds and foundation of the more reactionary
New League as the principal means of resolving the continued economic
tensions which divided Sol-loyalists from the colonial cousins. Increasing
awareness of the threat posed by the Sha'Har with the Celeste Affair of
4699, have since obscured this conflict from widespread attention, but
the fact remains that the New League and it's metamorphosis into the New
Empire were catalysed by the Third Colony War. Militarily, the war was
limited in scope and confused in the extreme.
Core
The galactic core - largely unexplored by humans, but allegedly home to
the so called 'Ur-Dargothan' civilisation and destination of some factions
of the Dargothans during the diaspora of the 4690s.
Cronus,
system
Surveyed and colonised between the late and final phases of the First
Colony War, this otherwise unremarkable system was host to heavy fighting
during the Second Colony War.
Cult,
The
An agglomeration of various xenophobic human organisations, formed in
4594 in the Cardinale system, where it was primarily active. Little is
known about it's structure or bizarre religious trappings, although commentators
have associated the Cult with Unisoft, the Sha'Har, and indeed every other
major organisation of the period. The diaspora of the Dargothans from
their home system in the 4690s is considered the high point of the Cult's
activities, and a low point in human-alien relations which contributed
significantly to the abandonment of the fledgling New League by their
only alien 'partners', the Squoroshelp, in 4703. Aggressive police measures
saw the destruction of the Cult by 4709, but the Dargothans never returned.
