G
Gallonigher,
system
Colonised from 4405, although fought over during the middle phase of the
First Colony War, Gallonigher was the League home system throughout the
late and final phases of the war, it's innermost planet giving name to
the Battle of Bennay in 4619. In 4639 the League's administrative and
military headquarters were secretly relocated to Boreas, but after the
Second Colony War the League and subsequently the New League continued
to base their capital in Gallonigher. Tsar Abrohamin I moved the centre
of human affairs to Magenta in 4809 with the foundation of the New Empire,
after which Gallonigher faded into obscurity.
Gulf
of Tears,
The Popular name for the gulf, NIS-N-042, between the human and Sha'Har
galactic arms.
Gulf
War
The ambitious counterattack across the Gulf of Tears launched by combined
Sol and League forces against the Sha'Har in 4677. Conflict between the
respective commanders of the expedition, possibly exacerbated by Sha'Har
manipulation using enhanced subspace engram/hypnotism, led to the premature
withdrawal of Sol loyalist forces. The League fleet, too weak to expoit
early successes on the other side of the gulf after their eventual arrival
in 4686, were driven out within two years. Their return to League space
in 4698 prompted bitter recriminations and the Third Colony War. Although
disastrous in execution, the Gulf War did provide useful propaganda undermining
the burgeoning myth of Sha'Har invincibility, as well as proving that
the gulf could be crossed relatively speedily using newly developed FTL
subspacial 'bubble' drives.
General,
The Pseudonym for The Father, used by Bureau 19 of the League Intelligence
Service and in the Red Sun testimonial if Alexander Valdemar.
